Winning Over the Reluctant Husband

It’s a pattern I see all the time.

Here’s something I’ve learned from shooting countless families over the years:

The mums are usually all in.

The kids... A little unpredictable, but mostly excited.

And the dads?

“My husband’s not really a photo person…”

I get it. I really do.

Most of the dads that come to my sessions aren’t counting down the days. It’s not exactly their idea of a fun afternoon. And that’s okay.

What I always say is: they don’t have to love it. They just have to show up. Because once we get going, once everyone relaxes and realises there’s no awkward posing or fake smiles, just real moments and connection - it all shifts.

It becomes fun.

It becomes natural.

And without even realising it, Dad’s laughing with the kids, wrapping his arms around Mum, and actually enjoying himself.

I usually even have dads thank me afterwards. Not just for the photos, but for how relaxed and easy the whole thing felt.

So if your other half is dragging his feet a bit, don’t worry. Don’t push. Just let him know it’s not about perfection, it’s about being together.

And if it helps, pack a beer or two!

One before, one after - and we’re golden.

(I won’t tell if you have one too.)

I’ll bring the camera and the calm. You just bring your crew.

Let’s make some magic.
